Why health and cleaning go along hand in hand

Why health and cleaning go along hand in hand

At first glance, cleaning and tidiness seem to be something so ordinary and simple, and yet it is much more than that! Finding a clean home does not only mean feeling good as cleanliness can have many different effects:

  • your general fitness
  • your sleep quality
  • your skin texture
  • the concentration of your brain
  • your stress level
  • your physical health
  • your immune system

What do cleanliness and hygiene mean to you?

Although there is no clear definition of the term 'hygiene', each of us has their own idea of it. Cleanliness and hygiene are two things that go along - without sufficient cleanliness measures, no hygiene can be created.

This can be achieved by the simplest means: Vacuuming the floor, wiping surfaces or cleaning the windows for a decent clear view. But why is hygiene so important and how can a lack of hygiene affect our health?

Our flatmates: micro-organisms in the household

Microorganisms are found everywhere: in the environment, on our skin and even in our intestines. However, this is not immediately a cause for concern!

The majority of micro-organisms are even useful for us humans, as they help to regulate our digestion.

Only a few of them can cause diseases. The problem arises when these micro-organisms multiply on surfaces and spread unintentionally in the household. For this reason it is very important to ensure cleanliness and hygiene by regular cleaning.

Targeted hygiene in the household

Hygiene itself is neccessary as a preventive measure. It focuses on preventing problems before they even arise.

In this article we will show you the basic rules for a hygienic home and how to best use our cleaning agent tabs for bathroom, all-purpose and glass!

Off the hand into your mouth

Many germs spread through contact transmission by hands. During the preparation of raw food, germs can quickly spread to surfaces and ultimately to our mucous membranes. Shaking hands among us humans is an equally frequent way of germ transmission. Germs cannot be avoided completely, but their spread can be limited by following hygiene measures at home. Thorough hand washing is therefore recommended every time you visit someone outside the flat or house, but mistakes are often made at that point as well. This is the right way to do it:

  1. Moisten your hands under running water
  2. Soap hands thoroughly and leave them to soap for at least 20 to 30 seconds
  3. allow to take effect
  4. Spread the soap well on the back of your hand, wrists, under your fingernails and between your fingers
  5. Rinse under running water
  6. Dry carefully with a clean towel and then hang the towel up to dry

Often, thorough hand washing as described above is sufficient to prevent the spread of germs. However, the situation is different for viruses and bacteria, such as the flu virus.

These are often not removed by simply washing hands or cleaning surfaces! Unfortunately, cleaning agents do not help either, because flu viruses can often only be eliminated by using disinfectants.

In the centre of the household - the kitchen

Once the hands are clean, the kitchen can start processing food. But here too, hygiene and cleanliness should not be underestimated!

What many of us may not know is that many micro-organisms and bacteria spread, especially around the sink and in the refrigerator. For these areas you should pay particular attention to adequate cleaning. For the refrigerator, it is advisable to thoroughly wash the shelves, walls and containers every week. You can use our klæny all-purpose cleaner, for example! Open packages such as cheese, sausage or spreads should be put in a separate box or can so that they are tightly sealed and bacteria cannot multiply quickly. This also guarantees that your food stays longer fresh.

For the cleaning being most effective, your utensils should also be picked correctly!

Change your rags and towels once a week, because bacteria like to collect here too, which you ultimately transfer from your towel to your dishes or food.

For more wellness - the bathroom

If there is one room in your appratment that is particularly susceptible to bacteria and mould, it is the bathroom.

Due to the use of a bathtub and shower, humidity is always created here, which, in the case of incorrect hygiene and ventilation, becomes visible through mould spores on the walls and joints. For this reason we have to pay attention not only to our own personal hygiene in the bathroom, but also the room's cleanliness. Starting with visual soiling, such as limescale, which you can ideally remove with our biodegradable ecotab bathroom cleaner, to non-visible soiling.

Our klæny bathroom cleaner is suitable for surfaces in your shower, bathtub or toilet. However, we recommend a suitable toilet cleaner especially for the inside of the toilet, as it has a special effect on discolouration and against bacteria, which usually cannot be removed with normal surface cleaners.

5 tips to avoid mould and bacteria in the bathroom:

  • air frequently and sufficiently (bumpy airing)
  • hang up damp textiles so that they can dry quickly
  • Clean the toilet regularly, also under the edge of the lid
  • Rinse the toilet brush thoroughly with water and replace it regularly if necessary
  • Wipe the bathtub and shower dry with a squeegee or cloth after use and remove water from the joints

All-purpose cleaner for cleanliness and hygiene of floors and furniture

A clean home often starts with the simplest things: the floor.

Dirt and grime carried into your beloved home from outside quickly spread to all corners, so the first and easiest tip to ensure cleanliness at all times is to take your shoes off!

This does save a lot of work. Nevertheless, regular cleaning of the floor is inevitable. Just by sweeping alone you can quickly remove obvious dirt in a short time.

The disadvantage of cleaning with a sweeper, however, is that dust is often only stirred up and spread further. This is where the wiper should be used from time to time.

Our tip: dissolve an ecotab all-purpose cleaner in a large bucket of water and wipe your floor with it. With the exception of marble, you can use it on all surfaces without hesitation and get a real klæny-fresh feeling at home without harming the environment!

In summary, cleanliness is important to maintain hygiene at all! Both components are highly dependent on each other, but can be achieved in a short time. If you lack the motivation to do so, try some good music or a radio play and maybe the work will be done almost automatically!

Last but not least, we have listed our top hygiene tips for you once again:

  1. Washing your hands is one of the most important hygiene routines!
